Overview

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering plays a pivotal role in leading and managing the design, implementation, and optimization of workspace and application delivery solutions within the enterprise. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and technical expertise in workspace technologies, application delivery platforms, and cloud infrastructure. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective delivery of applications and workspaces to end-users, while also driving innovation and efficiency in delivery processes. Management of infrastructure security/patch programs are also included in the position responsibilities. The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering manages a team of over 20 engineers and administrators, including leads in Software Management Packaging, Virtual Workspace Engineering, Mobile Engineering, Systems Management Engineering, and Policy and Automation.

Responsibilities

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering plays a pivotal role in leading and managing to design and architect scalable, resilient, and secure workspace and application delivery solutions, leveraging industry best practices and emerging technologies. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and technical expertise in workspace technologies, application delivery platforms, and cloud infrastructure. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the effective delivery of applications and workspaces to end-users, while also driving innovation and efficiency in delivery processes. They will manage a team of over 20 engineers and administrators, including leads in Software Management Packaging, Virtual Workspace Engineering, Mobile Engineering, Systems Management Engineering, and Policy and Automation.

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering will be responsible for ensuring consistency, reliability, and security across all workstations, while also staying up to date with industry best practices and emerging technologies. They will develop and implement workstation configuration management policies, procedures, and standards. They will collaborate with IT teams to define and document workstation configuration requirements based on user needs and organizational objectives. They will utilize configuration management tools to automate software deployment, patch management, and system updates. They will monitor and audit workstation configurations to ensure compliance with security policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Troubleshoot configuration issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and disruptions. They will continuously evaluate and improve workstation configuration processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering will oversee the implementation of workspace and application delivery solutions, ensuring successful deployment and integration with existing systems and infrastructure. They will continuously monitor and optimize the performance, reliability, and security of delivery platforms and related infrastructure components.

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering will collaborate with internal stakeholders, including IT operations, security, application development, and business units, to understand requirements and priorities and align delivery efforts accordingly. They will also interface with IT Security, Compliance, Health & Safety, Corporate Security, Internal Audit, and external auditors on reviews and action items related to Business Continuity, security, compliance, health and safety, and audits. They will implement and enforce security best practices and compliance standards for workspace and application delivery, addressing data protection, access control, and regulatory requirements. They will conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify and mitigate potential risks and vulnerabilities. They will facilitate communication and coordination between teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of applications and workspaces.

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering will drive innovation and thought leadership in workspace and application delivery engineering, staying abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices. They will Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and optimization to enhance efficiency and agility in delivery processes. They will develop and implement programs that will maintain and motivate technical staff and provide career opportunities that will minimize turn-over of valued staff members and maintain a healthy and safe working environment. They will develop and implement department specific policies and processes.

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering plans and manages the Infrastructure Technologies department capital ($7.5M annually) and O&M ($1M annually) budgets. They will produce monthly statistics related to Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Service Level Agreements (SLAs) , and departmental specific data useful in tracking performance and for benchmarking purposes as conducted by both internal and external resources.

The Enterprise Manager of Workstation Engineering will manage relationships with vendors, partners, and third-party service providers involved in workspace and application delivery, ensuring alignment with contractual obligations and service level agreements. They will evaluate vendor solutions and negotiate contracts to secure favorable terms and pricing. They negotiate contracts with vendors, carriers, and contractors ($1M per year).

Qualifications and skills:

  • Experience with virtualization and cloud computing.

  • Proven experience in IT workstation configuration management, preferably in a large enterprise environment.

  • Proficiency with configuration management tools such as SCCM, Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) for automation and customization tasks.

  • Strong understanding of the principles of systems engineering and be able to apply them to real-world problems.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or an equivalent combination of education/experience on a year-for-year basis, is required.

Experience

Minimum of 8 years related experience.

Proven experience in a leadership role overseeing workspace and application delivery engineering teams in large enterprise environments.

Deep technical expertise in workspace technologies (e.g., virtual desktop infrastructure, desktop as a service), application delivery platforms (e.g., Citrix, VMware Horizon), and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Strong understanding of networking principles, storage technologies, identity and access management, and security concepts related to workspace and application delivery.

Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, solution architecture, vendor management, and driving innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Must have extremely, in-depth technical background in the following:
